Be A Better Griller With These BBQ Tips

Grilling is one of those tasks that seems as if it should be easy. However, cooking up a savory barbecue meal isn't always simple. You need to perfect your grilling techniques and ensure each bite is packed with the right flavors in order to be a barbecue master. Work on your grill game with these suggestions.

Don't Press Burgers

When cooking burgers, you want to retain moisture and juices so that the meat doesn't dry out and you end up with hard food that's tough to chew. That means you need to watch how you handle the beef while grilling it. Turning and pressing all of the juices out of each burger is not a good idea. Turn, don't press.

Don't Brush on Sauce Until Cooking Almost Complete

Like many people craving barbecue foods, you may be excited to brush meat with a delectable BBQ sauce that you've made or purchased. However, if the sauce has got sugar in it, brushing it onto meat too soon can be a big mistake. Sugar burns quickly, and you might end up with burnt-tasting meat instead of delicious saucy ones. Wait until there are only a few minutes left of cooking and then add sauce.

Experiment with New Seasonings

While salt and pepper are still a classic duo, if you want to make your barbecue meats memorable, it's smart to experiment with various new seasonings you don't use everyday. Paprika, dill, saffron and other spices can give your foods an unexpected and unique taste. Spend some time at your grocery store's spice section to pick out different ones to try.

Consider a Grill Pan

If you're going to be grilling pieces of vegetables or fish and don't want to have to worry about them slipping into the coals, consider a pan that's just for grilling. Such pans have small holes on all sides so you can cook without worrying that most of your meal will end up mixed in with ashes.

Remember Cleanliness

Cleaning up while grilling isn't just for appearances; it's a matter of good health. Working with raw meats can, in some cases, mean the spread of germs that might make you or others sick. Be careful and periodically clean surfaces that have come into contact with raw beef, chicken or pork. Wash a plate that held raw burgers on them before putting cooked burgers back on it, for instance.

To be a better griller, visit nearby barbecue restaurants to sample their food and get an idea of what flavors and techniques you might try. You might also challenge yourself to attempt to recreate some of their dishes at home. A good place to sample food is Grumpy's Bar B Que Roadhouse, check it out!
